Checkerboard stitch variation

Today we are going to make a stitch that is a variation of the checkerboard stitch we learned the other day. This stitch is also composed by squares of different stitches. This time we are going to combine seed stitch and garter stitch.

As usual, you will find here the written explanation and a diagram for you to choose the one that fits you best. The sample is made by squares consisting in 5 stitches and 7 rows. You can modify the number of stitches and the number of rows to make the squares of the size you want. With this instructions you will need to cast on a number of stitches multiple of 10. You can really use a multiple of 5 number of stitches, taking into account that the instructions shows two neighbour squares. You will have to knit half a row to finish the last square.

    Row 1:  *1 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 6K*
    Row 2:  *5 P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 3:  *1 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 6K*
    Row 4:  *5 P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 5:  *1 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 6K*
    Row 6:  *5 P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 7:  *1 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 6K*
    Row 8:  *6 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 9: *1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 5P*
    Row 10:  *6 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 11: *1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 5P*
    Row 12:  *6 K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*
    Row 13: *1K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K, 5P*
    Row 14:  *6K, 1P, 1K, 1P, 1K*

In the same way, you can finish your work when you have knitted a number of rows multiple of 14 or multiple of 7. You finish a square each time you knit 7 rows. In the following diagram you have an orange arrow at the point at the edge of the squares.

    The result is this.

This is a reversible stitch. So you can use it for example for a blanket, like this one I knitted for also for a baby. You can also see how a different yarn will give us a different finishing even using the same stitch.

And combining different stitches you like you can have different "checkerboard" stitches. We have finished with checkerboard, unless you ask me about any particular stitch you have seen and you don't know how to make.
