Aprendiendo a tejer (VI) : Leer instrucciones y diagramas, parte 1

    Antes de empezar con el muestrario de puntos, voy a explicaros qué os podéis encontrar cuando tengáis delante un patrón para una prenda de punto. En el patrón os van a explicar muchas más cosas que el punto a realizar, el cual simplemente nombrarán si es un punto sencillo como punto jersey o punto elástico, pero en caso de ser un punto fantasía o algún tipo de punto más especial, os explicarán como hacerlo.

    También podéis encontraros con la explicación de los puntos más sencillos o los puntos utilizados en la revista agrupados al principio de las instrucciones, y luego tendréis que volver a esa parte cuando en el patrón de cada prenda hagan referencia a ellos.

    Os indico a continuación la información que podéis encontraros en los patrones. A veces no tendréis todo lo que os pongo, lo cuál no es problema para realizar la labor, y otras veces tendréis información adicional de la que no me acuerde ahora. Si tenéis alguna pregunta cuando leáis algún patrón, preguntádme.

    Os he dividido esta entrada en dos partes para que no os sea tan pesada de leer.

Yarn Bombing, or dressing the city in wool

Some days ago I posted on Facebook the photos of a car and of some trees “attacked” by Yarn Bombing. Today I’m going to tell you a bit about this movement.

Also known as yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, urban knitting or graffiti knitting, is a street art that uses colourful knitted or crocheted creations in their displays. It is said that it came out from the necessity of finding a way out for all those unfinished projects and leftovers that all the crocheters and knitters have.

The process and the result are very funny, both for people making the yarn installations and for the people seeing the process of setting them into place. Those people sewing in the street, sometimes at ungodly hours (like when Teje la araña put the bollards in Madrid) are not crazy.

Yarn Bombing, o vestir la ciudad con lana

   Hace unos días os puse en Facebook unas fotos de un coche y unos árboles "atacados" por el Yarn Bombing. Hoy vamos a hablar un poco de qué es este movimiento.

   

   También conocido como guerrilla del ganchillo, graffiti crochet o yarn storming, el Yarn Bombing es una forma de expresión de arte urbano. Utiliza creaciones con lana para sus intervenciones en lugares públicos. Hay quien dice que surgió de la necesidad de dar salida a todos esos proyectos inacabados y restos de lana que nos van quedando a todos los que tejemos. Son intervenciones que tiñen de color los espacios de la ciudad, vistiendo el mobiliario urbano o los lugares públicos.

Learning to knit (V): Bind-off

   You already know how to cast-on, knit and purl. You also can knit the four main patterns: garter stitch, stockinette stitch, ribbing and seed stitch. You can already knit yourself a scarf, but… how do we bind-off stitches?

Aprendiendo a tejer (V): Cerrar los puntos

   Ya sabéis cómo montar los puntos y cómo hacer el punto derecho y el punto revés. Ya sabéis tejer los cuatro tipos de puntos más sencillos: punto bobo, punto jersey, punto elástico y punto arroz. Con esto ya podéis haceros una bufanda, pero...¿cómo cerramos los puntos?

   Who has said that jewelry can not be made with yarn?

    

   I love earrings, necklaces, bracelets... And I love everything that is not common. Those things you can not buy at any shop. Yarn is light and is usually cheaper than metals, thus allowing you to have a wider variety of accesories for you to wear.

   

   To make our accesories we can use knitting, crochet, tatting or the French knitter or knitting doll. What is a knitting doll? It is a tool that allows you to make yarn cords. We can find diferent sizes, although they are called loom when they are big enough.

   

   This is the one I have. I bought it at Tiger Store at a very reasonable price. If you are interested in how to use it, let me know and I will make an entry about that. 

         

      As soon as I began to use it, ideas for necklaces came to my mind. Today I'm going to show you one of my designs.

   ¿Quién ha dicho que no se puede hacer bisutería con lana?
         

   A mi me encantan los pendientes, los collares, las pulseras... Y me gusta todo lo que se sale de lo común. Esas cosas que no puedes encontrar en cualquier tienda. La lana pesa poco y suele ser más económica que los metales preciosos, con lo que te permite tener una mayor variedad para poder combinar con la ropa.
        

   Para hacer nuestros complementos podemos utilizar el punto, el ganchillo, el frivolité o el tricotín. ¿Qué es un tricotín? Es un instrumento que nos sirve para hacer un cordón de lana. Los tenemos de diferentes tamaños, si bien cuando empiezan a ser un poco más grandes se consideran ya telares.

Learning to knit (IV): Ribbing and Seed Stitch

   I have been thinking about this next tutorial. I doubted between showing you how to close the stitches or the two basic remaining patterns. Finally I have chosen to show you first Ribbing and Seed or Moss stitch. This way, when I explain how to close the stitches, I can present you how to close any type of pattern we are knitting.

   Ribbing is called this way because of the finishing of the pattern. The resulting stitch is elastic and reversible. Both sides have the same finishing, so we don’t have right and wrong side.
